How to properly touch on a motorcycle. Learning to smoothly release the clutch

About my first riding lessons, I have already written. Now I would like to take a closer look at the most important thing – the process of touching. This is the hardest thing to learn how to ride a moto.

That is, you with your left foot, pressing the foot of the gearbox, switch to the first gear. But on some motorcycles, such as pit bikes, the first gear is on top and neutral on the bottom.

And on the top left is the clutch lever. Here's another photo with the caption of the controls:

1 – kick-starter; 2 – gear lever (gearbox foot) ; 3 – clutch lever; 4 – decompressor lever (on old motorcycles there is only); 5 – switch of direction indicators; 6 – sound signal button; 7 – headlight light switch; 8 – starting mannet (usually it is under the gas tank); 9 – light switch; 10 – emergency engine switch; 11 – front brake lever; 12 – "gas" knob; 13 – rear brake pedal; 14 – footrests.

Learning to start on a moto

Below is a picture where basically everything is shown. Here's what you need to do:

– Well, of course start a motorcycle :-).

– Before that, check that the neutral on the gearbox would be turned on.

So, the motorcycle is started. We sit on it.

1) Clamp the clutch lever (it is where the left hand is)

2) Turn on the first gear (usually the gear box leg is pressed down)

3) Slowly, not even, very slowly release the clutch lever that we clamped in the first paragraph.

4) While releasing the clutch lever, gently add gas (turn the throttle knob down which is on the right)

There will come that moment, during the release of the clutch, when you feel that the motorcycle begins to rush forward. Remember the position of the clutch lever, at this point. It is on it that a special smoothness will be needed.

And here are the selections of videos, where everything is well shown. In general, in order to learn to touch normally, only practice is needed! So you take a motorcycle and do the exercise, drive, stop.

The process itself is shown at 3:20 a.m.: And here is another video, which already shows an example on a sports bike: And here is another video, it even shows how to start a motorcycle: Tip: Do not go into the city until you have learned to touch, because in the city you can unsuccessfully stall at a traffic light or intersection.
